Days Between Dates Calculator: Count Days, Weeks and Workdays

Whether you are tracking a deadline, a notice period, a holiday countdown or a project duration, the number you need is usually "how many days between these two dates". The Days Between Dates Calculator returns the total days, the same span in weeks, and the business days and weekend days in between.

The off-by-one mistake

The most common error is not knowing whether to count the start date, the end date, or both. Two rules cover almost every case:

  • Elapsed time: count the gap between the dates. Monday to Friday is 4 days.
  • Inclusive counting: count both the first and last day. Monday to Friday is 5 days.

A notice period or a hotel stay usually counts inclusively; an age or a duration usually counts elapsed time. Decide which one the situation needs before you act on the number.

What the calculator returns

  • Total days between the two dates.
  • Weeks and days, which is easier to read for long spans.
  • Business days, Monday to Friday.
  • Weekend days.

Business days and public holidays

Business-day counts exclude Saturdays and Sundays but do not automatically exclude public holidays. If you are calculating a working deadline, subtract the holidays that fall inside the range for your country or region. A week containing a public holiday has one fewer working day, even though the calendar span is unchanged.

Practical uses

  • Deadlines and notice periods: know exactly how many days remain.
  • Project planning: convert a duration into working days.
  • Travel: count nights or days for a booking.
  • Billing: confirm the length of a service period.
  • Personal countdowns: birthdays, holidays and events.

Leap years and month lengths

The calculation uses real calendar dates, so leap years and uneven month lengths are handled for you. That is one reason to use a calculator rather than estimating "about 30 days a month", which drifts quickly over longer spans.

Frequently asked questions

Does the result include the start and end date? By default the end date is excluded, matching elapsed time. You can include it when you need inclusive counting.

How are business days counted? Monday to Friday are counted as business days. Public holidays are not removed automatically.

Does it handle leap years? Yes, real calendar dates are used, including 29 February.

Why am I one day off? Almost always the include/exclude end date setting. Both choices are valid; they answer different questions.

Can I count weeks instead of days? Yes. The result also shows the span in weeks and days.
