The selected area is copied at the picture's original resolution — no resizing, no quality loss. PNG keeps transparency, and GIF or BMP sources are saved as PNG.

Crop an Image by Dragging a Box

Upload a picture, drag a box over the part you want to keep, and download the cropped image. Zoom in and pan whenever you need a precise selection. The whole thing happens in your browser, so even a private photo stays on your own device.

How It Works

Choose an image and a crop popup opens with the whole picture selected. Drag anywhere on the picture to draw a new crop box, drag inside the box to move it, or grab one of the four corners to resize it. A live readout shows the exact pixel size of your selection. Press Confirm crop to see the result, then press Download.

Zoom & Pan for Precision

A large photo shown edge to edge can be hard to crop precisely, so the popup zooms from 5% up to 800%. Use the − and + buttons, the zoom slider, Ctrl/⌘ + scroll, or a pinch gesture on a touch screen, and drag the empty space around the picture — or hold Shift, or switch on Pan — to move the view. Fit returns to the whole picture.

Exact Pixel Values

When a number matters more than a drag, type the crop position and size straight into the X, Y, width and height boxes in the popup and press Apply. The values are clamped to the picture, so an out-of-range number is corrected instead of resetting your selection.

Aspect Ratio Presets

Need a square avatar or a widescreen banner? Pick one of the presets — Free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 9:16 — and the box snaps to the largest area with that shape that fits the picture. While a preset is active, dragging keeps the ratio locked, so the result is always exactly square, portrait or widescreen.

Original Pixels, No Quality Loss

The selected area is copied straight out of the original picture rather than scaled, so a 4000 × 3000 photo cropped to 1200 × 900 still contains the same detail as the pixels you saw. Nothing is stretched, blurred or re-compressed beyond the format you choose.

Formats & Transparency

Leave the output on Original format to keep the same type you uploaded, or convert to PNG, JPG or WebP. PNG is lossless and keeps transparent backgrounds, JPG is the smallest choice for photos, and WebP is a sharp middle ground. GIF and BMP uploads are written back as PNG, since those formats cannot be re-encoded by a browser.

Private by Design

The image is decoded, cropped and re-encoded on your own device. It is never uploaded to a server, never cached and never shared — which also means there is no upload wait and no queue.

Free & No Sign-Up

No account, no watermark and no limit on how many pictures you crop. Use it for product shots, avatars, cover images, screenshots or anything else that needs a tighter frame.

Frequently asked questions

Which image formats can I crop?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files are supported, up to the per-file size limit shown with the upload button. You can save the result in the original format or convert it to PNG, JPG or WebP.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

No. The crop copies the selected pixels at their original resolution — the file is never scaled down, so no detail is lost. Re-encoding to JPG or WebP at a lower quality setting can reduce file size, which is optional.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, cropping and saving all happen inside your browser. The picture never leaves your device, so you can crop personal photos safely.

How do I crop a square or 16:9 image?

Pick the aspect preset in the crop popup — 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 9:16 — and the crop box snaps to the largest matching area. Dragging stays locked to that ratio until you switch back to Free.

How do I crop a precise area of a large photo?

Zoom in with the + button, the slider or Ctrl + scroll until the part you want fills the popup, pan the view by dragging outside the picture, then draw your crop box. You can also type the exact X, Y, width and height in pixels.

Can I crop a PNG with a transparent background?

Yes. Transparency inside the selected area is preserved when you save as PNG. JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled white.

What is the smallest area I can crop?

The crop box never shrinks below 16 × 16 pixels, which keeps the result usable for thumbnails, avatars and icons.
